How to Plan a Puerto Rico Vacation

Decide where on the island you would like to stay. Most tourists visit the San Juan area. Yet, there are many places to visit around the island. There are three airports to choose from: International Airport Luis Munoz Marin(SJU) in San Juan, Ponce's Aeropuerto de Mercedita(PSE) on the South, or Aquadilla Aeropuerto Rafael Hernandez(BQN) on the northwest side.

Decide where to stay. This will depend on your budget. I was able to take a 10 day trip for 2 for less than $1,000 by staying with relatives and friends. There are about 18 Paradores or Inns around the island. There are rental cottages or guesthouses too. If your budget permits you can always find a Sheraton, Hampton Inn or Hilton.

Rent a car. Public transportation isn't very good. If you want to tour the island this is the best way to go. Caution, islanders are traffic bullies. Some streets you think are meant for one car but are actually a two way street. It's a very interesting experience specially in the San Juan area. Signs at times will not be seen until you get to them for tree branches cover them.

There are many things to do so I will list a few things at the bottom in the section tips to your article.

If you like Whale Watching. Vikins Starship 300 passenger vessel with Reservations will take you for $25 adults $12 children. From January to Mid April 10am-5pm.
